Update:
Pearson is on his way to Houston to start the last game of the series with the Astros. Anthony Kay would piggyback with Nate unless they use Kay tonight.
So this didn’t happen quite the way we thought:
- A.J. Cole was added to the active (and 40-man) roster.
- Ty Tice was optioned to Triple-A.
- Alejandro Kirk was moved to the 60-day IL
I’m really sad to hear Kirk will be gone for so long. I knew they were saying more than a month but I was hoping for less than two months.
Tice had a 5.14 ERA in 4 games. 7 innings, 9 hits, 4 earned, 1 home run, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts. 5 of those 9 hits came yesterday.
Cole had a 3.09 ERA in 24 games last season. Batters hit .226/.298/.393 against him. He had an opt-out in his minor league contract coming up, so they needed to add him to keep him, and when the number of pitching injuries, keeping him seems a good idea.
These moves suggest they don’t think Dolis will be out more than 10 days. Or they could be waiting for more information.
Today’s starting lineup:
