Matz to IL for Covid

When the team announced they hit 85% needed to loosen their Covid restrictions, I was pleased, but maybe I shouldn’t have been.

Steven Matz goes on the Covid IL. He is out for at least 10 days. Apparently, he is symptom-free, and the rest of the team has tested negative (but likely will be getting tested a lot over the next few days). No word on whether he was part of the 85% that had the vaccine. There is a small chance of getting it if vaccinated, but symptoms tend to be minor. I’m sure the team won’t say either way.

Jeremy Beasley was called up yesterday to take his roster spot. It looks like Matz will miss two starts. Thomas Hatch and Nate Pearson are the most obvious choices to fill in, but I guess there is a chance they will go to bullpen days.

No word yet on a rehab assignment for George Springer yet.

I put up a FanShot for this, but George Springer will start his rehab assignment tonight. He’ll play 5 innings of center field and the team will assess tomorrow.

Tonight’s lineup. Vlad gets a DH day. I’m sure the whole team could use a rest after circling the bases so much yesterday.
