Great start from Manoah, Vlad homers, Jays lose

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Blue Jays 2 Red Sox 1

So I was finished the recap when Vladimir Guerrero homered to tie the game. But I’m still happy about it. Vlad hit it 451 feet.

Of course, when Biggio booted a ground ball (ruled a hit, I humbly disagree) from Alex Verdugo and J.D. Martinez singled, I started to get mad at Vlad. A medium fly to left made me hopeful. But a Rafael Devers fly ball off the Monster ended it.

Twice Dolis gets hurt by an error to lead off his inning. He should be picking his teammates up, but it isn’t easy.

Yesterday’s game was a lot more fun, so, of course, I was on the phone all the way through dealing with RLS. Yes, the s is a none BBB friendly term.

Alek Manoah was terrific. 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Buck was on about his control or command or something, but he just continued getting outs. He did go to 3 balls a few times. But ended 6 innings at 93 pitches, so I’m not worried.

The Red Sox run came on a fly ball to left that Lourdes Gurriel seemed to get his glove on, but didn’t make the catch up against the wall in left, and then when he threw to Bo Bichette at cutoff man, Bo threw to second instead of home. I thought there might have been a play at the plate, but there was no play at second. If Lourdes could have made that catch we might still be playing.

But, after scoring a few dozen runs yesterday, our bats had troubles with Nathan Eovaldi. We only had 3 hits and a walk off him in 6.2 innings.

And we didn’t do any better against reliever Josh Taylor.

We only had one real shot at scoring. We started the 7th with back-to-back singles from Vlad and Teoscar. But a Randal Grichuk double-play ball and a Rowdy Tellez strikeout ended that. Bo had our only other single against Eovaldi.

And we didn’t do any better against reliever Josh Taylor.

Joel Payamps pitched 2 very good innings of relief, getting 2 strikeouts.

We get a split, it could have been a sweep, but we were at least in all the games. The schedule gets easier after this, so hoping that we can get some wins.

Jays of the Day: Vlad (.370 Manoah (.198)

Suckage: Grichuk (-.269), Semien (.157), Tellez (-.117), Gurriel (-.107, plus missing the catch in left) and Biggio (-.076 plus the non-error in the ninth).

Tomorrow the Jays are back home in Buffalo, to play the Yankees. 7 eastern start.
