Buffalo (13-10) - Won 3-2 over Syracuse
Buffalo didn’t do a lot with the bats to support TJ Zeuch, but they did just enough to pick up a walk-off win in this one. Buffalo scored 1 in the 1st on a Kevin Smith RBI single. Tyler White tied the game at 2 in the 6th with a sac fly, driving in Christian Colon. And the hero was Logan Warmoth with the ever exciting walk-off walk scoring Kevin Smith, who had opened the bottom of 9 with his 2nd double of the game.
Smith had a big game with 3 hits, including the 2 doubles. Warmoth picked up Buffalo’s only other hit on the night, a double, to go with his run scoring walk. Forrest Wall had 3 walks on the night after having only 2 for the season going into the game. Wall also made a nice catch in the OF, starting an 8-4-3 double play, though a run scored on the play. Christian Colon walked twice and scored twice. Buffalo had 4 hits and 7 walks but were able to push across just enough runs.
TJ Zeuch started and was able to get through 5 innings, scattering 7 hits and a walk to hold Syracuse to the 2 runs. In good news for Jays fans, Patrick Murphy moved up to AAA and got into the game, throwing 2 scoreless innings. Murphy allowed a single and a walk, while striking out 2. Jackson McClelland & Jeremy Beasley each had a scoreless inning of relief, with Beasley picking up his 2nd win of 2021.
New Hampshire (9-15) - Loss 6-4 to Binghamton
Kyle Johnston got the ball for New Hampshire and was not as successful in suppressing offense in this one. Johnston gave up 4 earned runs over 3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks. Johnston struck out 2. Graham Spraker allowed an unearned run in 2 innings of relief. Fitz Stadler had a hard time finding the strike zone and was charged with a run on 1 hit and 3 walks in 0.2 innings. Brody Rodning had 2.1 innings of shut out relief and Willy Gaston pitched a scoreless inning.
At the plate, the Fisher Cats were only able to muster 5 hits, 3 walks and 2 hit batters. Austin Martin had a single, a double and was hit by a pitch. LJ Talley had a double, a walk and stole a base. Samad Taylor had a single and a walk. Kevin Vicuna added a double. Gabriel Moreno had a walk, was hit by a pitch and picked up a steal of home on the back-end of a double steal. For the first day in 2021 that Otto Lopez was in the lineup, he did not record a hit, and also made an error in the field.
Vancouver (15-10) - Loss 7-1 versus Eugene
Vancouver fell behind quickly in this one, down 4-0 before they got to hit for the first time, and down 6-1 after 2. Sean Wymer was hit early and often in this one, including giving up a 3-run HR in the 1st. Wymer finished with 7 earned runs allowed in 4 innings on 7 hits, 3 walks and a hit batter. Wymer allowed 4 doubles and the HR among the 7 hits. Brandon Eisert had 3 perfect innings of relief, striking out 6. Sam Ryan threw 2 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 2.
Vancouver picked up 5 hits, a walk and a hit batter, and were unable to generate much at the plate. The only Vancouver run came on an error in the bottom of 1, as Spencer Horwitz reached on a fielding error by the CF, scoring Cameron Eden. Eden had singled and stolen 2nd base (his 17th of the year), scoring on the error. Tanner Morris & Ronny Brito each doubled, while Tanner Kirwer and DJ Neal had singles. Ryan Gold was the only C to reach base twice, as he walked and was hit by a pitch.
Dunedin (8-17) - Loss 7-5 against Bradenton
Dunedin had battled back from an early deficit to take a 5-3 lead into the 9th and saw Bradenton pick up 4 runs in the top of 9. The 9th went pop out, walk, single, walk, wild pitch, triple, wild pitch, K, K against Roither Hernandez. Naswell Paulino started and allowed 3 runs in 4 innings on 5 hits and 2 walks. Paulino struck out 5 and was able to get 3 ground outs. Elixon Caballero saw his first action in 2021, with an inning of scoreless relief. Caballero struck out 2.
