Jays Roster Moves: Kay Sent Down

The Blue Jays have made a couple of roster moves since they aren’t playing tonight:

  • Anthony Kay has been optioned back to the Bisons (I can’t wait until I can say sent to Buffalo once again). Someone will be called up to take his spot before tomorrow’s game.
  • Alejandro Kirk gets activated from the 60-day IL and is optioned to the Bisons.
  • To make 40-man roster room for Kirk, T.J. Zeuch was DFAed.

I’m hoping Kirk gets moved up to the major league team soon. I know McGuire had a hot streak when he first came up to the club, but that's ended. Kirk has a shot to be with the team in the future. Let’s see what we have. And then Moreno could move up to Triple-A.

I’m sure you know, but tonight’s Jays game will be made up on August 7 at 3:00, the first of a day/night doubleheader.

Minor Leaguer tells me this will be the fourth doubleheader in Rogers Centre history (1989 vs. California, 2001 vs. Cleveland, 2018 vs. KC).

The first-ever SkyDome / Rogers Centre doubleheader was also caused by rain at a different venue. On May 7, 1989, the Angels-Blue Jays game at Exhibition Stadium was rained out; however, the Angels didn’t return to Toronto until June 17, after the Jays’ move into their new home.

This will be the first split doubleheader in SkyDome / Rogers Centre history.
