Cleveland Baseball Team Now The Guardians

MLB: New York Mets at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

I’m sure anything would be an improvement over what they had, but the Cleveland Baseball Team is now the Cleveland Guardians.

I’m good with it. I wasn’t really taken by the idea of the Spiders. It just seems like something better in concept than it would be in practice. And it would give Glenallen Hill PTSD.

I still figure all the teams should change their name to United. It works in the Premiership.

Tom Hanks and the Black Keys did a video on the change:

And they showed the logos:

Again, anything that will get rid of Chief Wahoo is a good thing.

Apparently, the name relates to guardian statues you see as you enter Cleveland.

Another name they considered, likely briefly, was Bluebirds, which would have been problematic for us.

I’ll admit, I’m happy that I won’t have to avoid their team name anymore. When Jerry Howarth could stop using the name on broadcasts, I figured we could stop using the name here.

Some tried to say the team was named after Native American player Lou Sockalexis, but that doesn’t appear true.

Anyway, let’s have a poll.
