Around The Nest is the weekly Toronto Blue Jays minor league podcast, hosted by Tyler Zickel of the Vancouver Canadians (high-A). This week we hand out midseason awards to the top Blue Jays minor leaguers so far in 2021. On this episode, Zick is joined by Pat Malacaro of the Buffalo Bisons (triple-A), Tyler Murray of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (double-A), and Andrew Thriffiley of the Dunedin Blue Jays (low-A).
This has been a busy moving week of sorts: top prospects Austin Martin and Simeon Woods Richardson were traded to the Twins, Riley Adams was dispatched to the Nats, Jon Harris and Vinny Capra finds themselves promoted to triple-A, and of course, the Blue Jays are back in Toronto and the Bisons will soon be back in Buffalo. We discuss how the moves impact the Jays’ farm system as well as the performances of Kevin Smith and John Axford in Buffalo, Orelvis Martinez’s “cold” spell in Dunedin, Justin Maese’s search for consistency and C.J. van Eyk’s gutsy start for Vancouver, and Jordan Groshan’s new role with the Fisher Cats.
