There is a report that Otto Lopez has been called up, No word on who would be going out if this is true. Lopez was put on the 40-man in February
Lopez started the season in New Hampshire and hit .330/.397/.457 with 3 home runs in 69 games. They moved him up to Buffalo on August 2nd. In 11 games there he hit .282/.404/.410 with 2 triples, 1 double, 5 steals (0 times caught) in 11 games. He’s played CF, LF, RF, SS, and 2B this season. He is an RHB.
We were told that George Springer hasn’t likely to go on the IL, but maybe he isn’t doing as well as we were told. Or perhaps, Bo Bichette is hurting more than we thought. He didn’t exactly look healthy in Sunday’s game. The other possibility is they have given up on Breyvic Valera already.
There are lots of possibilities:
- If Bo was out, Marcus Semien could play short and Lopez second.
- If Valera is DFAed, Lopez could play third. Valera’s 40-man spot could be held open for one of the pitchers that will be added.
- If Springer goes on the IL, Lopez could be a fourth outfielder/defensive replacement in CF.
- Maybe they want an extra bat for the two NL-style games vs. the Nationals.
This is just a report at the moment. Likely you guys in the east will know if this is true in the morning before I’m up and moving.

Born in DR and raised for several years in Montreal after his father’s teaching job took the Lopez family to Canada, Otto signed with the Blue Jays back in 2016 and has quietly put up numbers ever since.@BlueJays pic.twitter.com/y2Sf6mu4Cq
