MLB.com has a story up with a vote on the AL and NL Cy Young votes.
On the AL side, Robbie Ray is number 3. Gerrit Cole and Lance Lynn. If Robbie continues to pitch like he has this past month, he might move up the list, but I can’t imagine the voters will pick him over Cole.
Of course, winning the Cy Young would increase his price in free agency.
There is a question, Ray will be 30 next year. He’s having his best season ever in the majors. How much will it take to sign him? I’m thinking 5 years and $125 million. Let’s have a poll:
Poll
If the over/under on Robbie Ray’s upcoming contract is 5 years and $125 million
This poll is closed
-
46%
That will be pretty close.
-
1%
He’ll get more years.
-
9%
He’ll get more than $25 million a year
-
21%
He’ll get less years.
-
21%
He’ll get less money
A site called Betway Insider has a post up with an interview of Dave Stieb. They talk about him being drafted as a pitcher when he wanted to be an outfielder. His ‘competitveness’. And his number 1 memory, winning the Blue Jays first-ever playoff game.
This is interesting:
Stieb’s animation on the field was somewhat out of place at the time, and he even drew the attention of some of the biggest names in the sport.
“I remember my idol, Reggie Jackson, pulling me aside one time when we were playing the Angels,” Stieb says.
“He said: ‘Hey, I gotta tell you, you can’t be out there showing that emotion. That gives the other team an edge.’
Every team thinks their hitters and pitchers are getting ripped off by umpires. One day we’ll have robo umps (and we will likely complain about those too). Jays aren’t at the top of the list, nor the bottom.
This bad call made us wonder which teams were robbed by called third strikes on pitches out of the strike zone most often. Here's the list in case you were wondering, too. https://t.co/VE5Nnzrz7c pic.twitter.com/QVVAzLgrLj

Speaking of balls and strikes, Jordan Baker had a very good day behind the plate yesterday. I wondered when John Schneider was tossed if I was wrong. I thought he was doing a good job. I guess, when you are going through a crappy stretch, you want to yell at someone.

Trevor Bauer had his ‘leave’ extended another week. I don’t know why they have to do this every week. Just suspend him and get it over with.
