Cleveland 2 Blue Jays 7
That makes two excellent starts in a row for Hyun Jin Ryu. And three of the last four starts have been very good.
Tonight he went 7 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 earned, 0 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Four of his seven innings were 3 up 3 down. He gave up back-to-back doubles in the sixth and a couple of hits in the fourth. But other than that, all went very well.
Rafael Dolis had a quick (for him) eighth inning.
Ryan Borucki got the ninth and got through it too fast for me to finish the recap.
On offense, we had 12 hits and plenty of runs. Teoscar Hernandez, had 3 hits, including his 17th home run of the season. George Springer, Lourdes Gurriel, and Reese McGuire had 2 hits each. McGuire had a bunt double (really should have been a single and an error, but bunt double is more fun.
We scored:
- Three in the first: Springer started the game with a home run. I think he likes Rogers Centre. Two outs later Bo Bichette singled and Teoscar homered.
- One in the fourth: Teoscar led off with a single. He went to third on a Lourdes Gurriel double and scored on a Breyvis Valera ground out.
- Two in the fifth: Springer led off with a double. Marcus Semien singled. Bo hit a fly ball to rather shallow center but Myles Straw doesn’t have a good arm, George scored and Semien moved up on the throw. Teoscar singled home Marcus.
- One in the sixth: Lourdes started things off with a walk (giving him 16 on the season, 5 more would be a new career-high). Reese got his bunt double. Springer hit a sac fly.
Vlad had a tough night, 0 for 5, mostly soft-hit things. And Corey Dickerson had an 0 for 4 in his Jays debut. The broadcast team were selling him hard to us. Jamie told us that he is an ultra dangerous hitter. I see a guy with a .699 OPS this year and a,713 OPS last year.
Jays of the Day: Ryu (.187 WPA), and Hernandez (.203, for this 3 for 5 with 3 RBI). Lets give Springer an honorable mention.
No Suckage Jays.
