Sunday Bantering: Ryu to IL

There is news this morning. Rob Longley tells us Hyun Jin Ryu is going on the IL with neck tightness. Taylor Saucedo comes back to take his roster spot.

We have a couple of weeks until the playoffs (hoping that we get there), so he could be back.

The Sun’s Rob Longley spoke to Josh Donaldson, who told him that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should be AL MVP. Donaldson bases his feelings on the fact that the Jays are in the playoff race.

“To me, Vlad on a day-to-day basis has affected more games,” Donaldson said in an interview with the Toronto Sun in the visitor’s dugout prior to Saturday’s game against the Jays. “That to me, makes you most valuable.

“They have a nice lineup, but without Vlad in that lineup, this isn’t the same team. And that makes a big difference.”

He points out that, what Vlad is doing, at age 22, is incredible. And that voters should consider that Vlad has played in three different home parks. He also mentions that Vlad “doesn’t try too much”.

Donaldson also talks about his time in Toronto. It is a good read, go take a look.

The Jays are going to face a top prospect making his first start Monday:

The Bisons’ season ends today. They will finish first in the Northern Division of the Triple-A East, with a 70-46 record. There are no playoffs planned, but they are going some games against other contending team’s Triple-A, to keep players game ready in case they need players down the stretch.

Both Cavan Biggio (3 for 4) and Santiago Espinal (1 for 3) homered in yesterday’s Bison’s game. Thomas Hatch had a rough start. 2.2 innings, 3 earned, 2 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Of course, he may have come out early to be available for Ryu’s starting spot.

The Fisher Cats will finish third at 51-55 going into their last game today.

Vancouver Canadians are 54-64 fifth in the High-A Wast.

Dunedin Blue Jays are 56-63, fourth in the Low-A Southwest league.

It is George Springer’s 32nd birthday. There are a bunch of studies showing guys do well on their birthdays, so let’s hope for a big day for him.

Also having birthdays are Danny Valencia (37), Ryan Roberts (41), Randy Myers (59), and Robinson Diaz (38). I wanted to do a full birthday post, but I don’t have time this morning.
