In advance of tonight’s big game against the Yankees, the Blue Jays have activated a couple important pieces for the stretch drive.
The activation of Hyun Jin Ryu was expected, as he has been slated to start tonight’s game. He last made a start on September 17, so his time on the IL was minimal. He’ll likely be on a short leash tonight, but has had success against the Yankees this year.
Cavan Biggio also returns to the active roster, missing almost 8 weeks with a strained neck/elbow/shoulder? He had a previous rehab attempt in Buffalo cut short due to the elbow injury. His most recent stretch of rehab games haven’t gone well either, hitting just .227/.300/.386 over 50 PA. Not really what you want to see from an established Major Leaguer making a rehab assignment. He’ll likely see some playing time at multiple positions over the final 6 games.
Heading out off the roster is a pair of relievers in Ryan Borucki and Kirby Snead. Borucki last pitched on Thursday prior to serving his two game suspension. Snead didn’t pitch in the three days he was on the active roster.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. makes his return to the lineup tonight, getting the start at DH. Expect that for at least the next few days.
The Postseason race becomes a sprint!
