Wednesday Bantering: Still No Ohtani News

We aren’t expected to hear Ohtani’s decision until Sunday

It looks like the Yankees are getting Juan Soto and center fielder Trent Grisham. It looks like pitchers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez and catcher Kyle Higashioka are headed to San Diego. It's not a bad haul for one year of Soto.

The Yankees also traded with the Red Sox, getting Alex Verdugo and sending reliever Greg Weissert and minor league pitchers Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice to Boston. Trades between the Yankees and Red Sox are few and far between.

The trade hasn’t been finalized. It sounds like the medical stuff is getting in the way.

The Jays are among seven teams said to be interested in Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Dodgers, Giants, Mets and Yankees are also named, and there are two ‘mystery teams’.

The Angels have an agreement with Adam Cimber on a one-year, $1.65. He’s due a bounce-back year.

The Jays didn’t pick anyone up or lose anything in the major league.

They didn’t pick up Alexis Hernandez in the minor league part of the draft. Hernandez is a 21-year-old outfielder who hit .267/.380/.379 in 46 games in low A.

They lost two players:

  • The Twins took Del Rosario, an infielder. He’s 20 and hit .267/.342/.403 in A ball.
  • The Phillies took Trevor Schwecki, a 25-year-old utility player, who hit .267/.342/.403 splitting time between the Fisher Cats and the Bisons.

The Orioles signed reliever Craig Kimbrel, so we are going to have to watch his rather weird pose on the mound far too much this season.
